concept Kids who have attended summer camp at SON-Life Camp & Retreat Center and kids at local churches will receive this direct mail newsletter addressed to them. The challenge is to design something that will appeal to ages 9-16 and both boys and girls. Each year, camp has a theme, and in 2007, it's the Reality TV and nature challenge—"Utlimate Reality." The use of illustrations and photographs, electronics and the beach, layout grids and off-grid placements all work to create tension between what's real and what's "staged" in life. The client's design request included emphasizing the adventure theme. I suggested the TV elements to clarify the use of the Reality TV construct for the week of camp. They were also images that would appeal to their audience without alienating the parents. I wrote the intro letter based on an interview with the client. form 11x25.5 trifold newsletter client SON-Life Camp & Retreat Center, Wayland, Michigan software PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign images stock and provided type Myriad family, Rockwell paper 80# text, coated date Spring 2007 |
